  Assuming a standard headlap of 75mm (3") for concrete and clay tiles, and 100mm (3.9") for slate tiles, the approximate number of tiles per m2 is:
• Concrete tiles: 60-70 tiles per m2
• Clay tiles: 55-65 tiles per m2
• Slate tiles: 10-12 tiles per m2

The spacing of roofing battens also affects the number of tiles per m2. The recommended batten spacing for roof tiles is:

• 300mm (11.8") for concrete and clay tiles
• 400mm (15.7") for slate tiles

Ridge tiles and slates are used to cover the ridge of the roof, where the two slopes meet. The number of ridge tiles or slates per m2 depends on the width of the ridge and the desired overlap.
